A popular day on the Darwin calendar, the Fannie Bay Swim Classic is now in its 13th year. This Sunday 2nd July 2017 is going to see over 150 competitors descend on the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club (DSLSC) at Casuarina Coastal Reserve. They are attending to thrash it out in either the 1.2km or 2.1km open water ocean swim – the only one of its kind in Darwin.
A popular school of thought amongst us non-competitors (hands up from the team in Ray White Bayside) is why would anyone would dip their toes in the home of crocs and jellyfish?! We for one will definitely be cheering these valorous challengers on.
The focus of the day is to promote awareness around the health benefits of swimming for all ages, and encourage family participation in the sport. Swimming is an excellent low impact sport, great for stress release and cardio-vascular health. It can be enjoyed by people both young and old, championed for building strength and blasting calories – and much needed when trying to escape the clutches of a hungry croc!
Don’t worry though, the organisers have got that covered, so you’re all good!
As it is the largest DSLSC fundraising event of the year, spectator participation is highly encouraged. The Ray White Bayside team are proud sponsors of this exhilarating event and will be there for sure. We hope you will be too!
