The annual Black Dog Ride is coming back to Darwin on Sunday 19th March to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention.
Heartbreaking statistics show that eight people commit suicide every single day in Australia, and Black Dog Riders aim to start a national conversation to raise awareness of mental health and help prevent this tragic loss of life.
Black Dog Riders have brought Black Dog Ride’s 1 Dayer to our country’s towns since 2010. It’s an enjoyable day, but also deeply meaningful to hundreds of people who have been affected by the effects of mental illness. This event encourages everyone to talk – nobody is alone!
The fun day begins at East Point Reserve at 8.30am for brekky and a mingle with amazing like-minded people. The ride then departs at 10.30am and will end at Wagait Beach Social Club – just in time for lunch. A few of the Ray White Bayside Real Estate team will be heading down to East Point in the morning to show our support.
You can register for the event online for just $30, and you will instantly be in the draw to win an Indian Scout motorcycle, valued at $19,995! Indian Motorcycle have generously donated the bike, which will be raffled on the day – but only if you register online, so get it done! Alternatively, registration will cost $40 on the day.
Riders can also purchase a Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer 2017 t-shirt. It looks pretty cool to be honest and it’s only $30 (this includes shipping too), and of course, all merchandising profits assist Block Dog Ride Australia with its nationwide charitable suicide prevention activities. All additional proceeds generated on the day of the ride are gifted to local mental health projects and organisations. Causes don’t get much more important than this!
Jon Benham is the amazing volunteer in charge of the event here in the Top End, and he can be contacted on 0488 546 117 or at darwin@blackdogride.com.au. For registrations please go to https://darwinnt1dayer2017.eventbrite.com.au/.
