For the most incredible beach sunsets and a huge selection of foods from around the world, you just can’t beat Mindil Beach Sunset Market which kicks off from 5pm until 10pm Thursdays, and 4pm until 9pm Sundays during the Dry! A long and much-loved Darwin institution, the Mindil Beach Markets have been a must-visit now since they first started in the mid-1980’s.
In 1987, the market stalls first appeared in Darwin Mall, but understandably, the permanent retailers in the mall weren’t impressed. As a result, the markets moved to Mindil Beach, and that is how it became the iconic event it is today.
Nowadays the market boasts a huge number of stalls, supports more than 300 small businesses and employs around 1000 locals. Yearly the markets contribute around $15 million to the local Northern Territory economy, and with Darwin becoming a popular tourist destination and place to live, growth at the markets is expected.
If you’re a Darwin local or one of our clients here at Ray White Bayside real estate, then chances are you will live in closed proximity to Mindil, which means you have no excuse but to make your way down to this beautiful spot with a rug, chairs and esky on a Thursday or Sunday afternoon. It’s the place to enjoy mouth-watering Sri Lankan, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Malaysian, Brazilian – you name it – cuisine, and combine that with the exciting stalls and priceless sunsets, and you’ll more than likely find yourself coming back over and over again!
