It’s time to get on your bike and pedal to work, as part of the 2017 Ride2Work Day

By Korgan Hucent

National Ride2Work Day is coming up on Wednesday 18th October and it is the country’s largest celebration of commuter riding! In a bid to normalise riding a bike to work, Bicycle Network host the event every year and in so doing, encourage thousands of Aussies to hop on their pushbikes and ride to work.  Whether or not everybody keeps up the riding throughout the rest of the year, the day gives those who need it a little push in the right direction to improving their health, and that of the planet!

Currently two-thirds of Aussies are not getting enough exercise and the majority of us spend our working days sitting on our backsides – which is apparently, just as bad as smoking!  That’s right – just as bad for us as smoking, and we all know how bad that is for our health!

We are lucky here in the Top End where we don’t need to worry about traffic, unlike those interstate, who spend an ever-increasing amount of time behind the wheel or on buses and trains.  That of course means, even more time sitting down! Riding to and from work can provide positive counteractive benefits to the negative effects caused by our sedentary lifestyles, so the team here at Ray White Bayside are willing to give it a shot!

If you’re interested, get your mates on board and do the commute together to make it fun! Register online at https://cam.bicyclenetwork.com.au/rtw/ and do your health, the planet and your pocket a favour!
