Second only to the infamous Mindil Beach sunset, is the ability of the Beer Can Regatta to draw crowds to the sandy shoreline. The 9th July will be a proud day for many inventors who have toiled away on their recyclable sea vessel for several months preceding. Not to mention the dedication required to drink lots of beer – and all in the name of superior boat building.
This festival, unique to Darwin, is a project of the Combined Lions Club of Darwin. It has been a much-revered day in the dry season calendar, and successfully brings family and friends together for a day of fun. The markets extend their hours, starting early afternoon, to provide much needed sustenance to the spectators – and great shopping opportunities too!
Aside from being able to marvel at the structural feats of can and milk containers, there are a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy. To give you an idea, kids can take part in a variety of races, with prizes on offer to sweeten the day!
Still not began to build your boat? There is still time! The team at Ray White Bayside have been putting in overtime to get our project afloat – excuse the pun – and there is still time for you too! Although we don’t think we’ll quite get things done in time to set sail on the big time. There’s always next year for that! We will however, ensure at least a few of us get down there this year, to watch the excitement unfold!
