The Melbourne Cup is Almost Upon Us…Again!

By Korgan Hucent

We all know The Melbourne Cup as being the biggest race of the year, and it’s only a matter of days away once again! It’s the day the nation stops to eat, bet and be merry – no matter where they are in the country.  And with various events occurring for the occasion throughout Darwin, what better way to watch the racing than at our very own racetrack here in D Town?!

From 10am till 6pm on Tuesday 7th November, you can enjoy a whole afternoon of racing at the Darwin Turf Club, and catch all of the Melbourne racing live on the super screens in between races, trackside! And no, there’s no need to leave your preferred spot on the lawns!

There are a few options for you to choose from to suit your race day needs too. Maybe you just want to go along and join in on the fun with drinks?  If so, that will set you back just $45, and you’ll have total access to the Ted Bailey Grandstand. Or maybe you feel like you will need to eat – which is probably wise if you’re going to be enjoying a few beverages!  If that sounds like you, then you can book a three-course luncheon, which will cost non-members $85 and members just $70.

Alternatively, you can grab a ticket to the Schweppes Pavilion BBQ, where you will receive a 3-hour beverage package (can’t complain about that!), a BBQ lunch and of course, that much needed air conditioning during this blistering build up heat! So, whether you’re into racing or not, Melbourne Cup day is always a blast, and it is the perfect excuse for a drink or two on a Tuesday!

So, go and choose your outfit for the day or if you’re stuck on what to wear, you still do have time to get yourself to the shops!  It’s a fantastic reason for getting all dolled up and having fun and laughs with your friends.
