By Korgan Hucent
If you’re anything like quite a few of us here at Ray White Bayside real estate, you really love seeing old photos of your town and hearing the stories of what life used to be like amongst the streets and suburbs we call home. Well this year’s Heritage Festival, bought to you by the National Trust will feature a fantastic line up of events, which collectively tell the stories of Darwin from yesterday.
Here are just a few of our top picks for this year’s festival:
• Ghost Walks (Monday 18th April from 6.30pm-7pm at both Goyder Road and Gardens Cemeteries): This guided tour will be happening at the same time at both the Goyder Road Cemetery and Gardens Cemetery. Prepare to learn more about those who called this place home…and be prepared to possibly even be scared! Just $15 for the Goyder Road Cemetery and $10 for the Gardens Cemetery.
• Mystery Heritage Bus Tour and BBQ (Wednesday 20th April at 5pm at the 1934 Qantas Empire Airways Hangar, Parap): Learn more about the hidden treasures of Darwin’s past. Just $20 per person and it includes a delicious sausage sizzle.
• Celebration of Heritage – Rediscovering Myilly Point (Friday 22nd April at Myilly Point): Discover all of the old houses at the Myilly Point precinct as part of a guided tour, and then enjoy a fun night of celebrations including music, food, games and interactive displays. Just $20 per person, with under 18’s absolutely free!
• Heritage Walk – Rediscover the Old Waterfront (Sunday 24th April at the Steam Pump House, Stokes Hill Road): Discover the original Darwin Wharf, Mud Hut and WWII oil fuel tunnels and iconic Stokes Hill. Just $10!
There’s also going to be an incredible Talc Head Picnic from 2pm. Board the pearling lugger Tumlaren, setting sail for the picnic destination at Talc Head. BYO picnic and drinks are available onboard. Just $50 per person to experience this fabulous picnic and cruise.
