How many times have you said “I want to start growing my own veggies!”? Well, now you can with the help for Lakeside Drive Community Garden!

By Korgan Hucent

On Sunday 5th March, the guys at the community garden are hosting their monthly workshop, with the focus on, ‘Food plants you can grow in confined spaces in Darwin’. Perfect for us who live in apartments – like a few of us here at Ray White Bayside Real Estate.  Perfect as well for clients of ours living in housing with minimal room!

The community garden is located at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina Campus on a two-acre site, and run by a dedicated team of volunteers.  This fabulous initiative is supported by the Office of Community Engagement at CDU.

Head along to learn how to grow your own sustainable food, meet like-minded people and more importantly, improve your health! Learn about the tropical produce we can grow here in the Top End, be proud of growing your own and make your dinner plates that little more exciting!  If you’ve got children, work with them so they can learn where their food comes from, and take action right now to encourage life-long, healthy eating habits.

The workshops will only set you back $5 too! What a bargain! Or better still, they are absolutely free if you become a member. With that five bucks, you will get a helpful two-hour workshop, a garden tour and talk, and even refreshments! And to get you started with your own little veggie garden at home, you will get some seeds potted and even cuttings too! Sounds great to us!

If you are joining us there then you are asked to bring a hat and gloves and of course, your love of gardening! The gardens are located at 27 Lakeside Drive, Alawa, and will repeat monthly until Friday 23rd June. For more information, email: ldcgarden@gmail.com or call Birut on 0438 611 447.
