Fancy a Winter Swim at Fannie Bay in Just Over a Months’ Time?

By Korgan Hucent

Well as you know, it’s technically winter everywhere else in June but not so for we the lucky people of Darwin – and that means you can go for a swim! On Sunday 26th June the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club will host the 12th Annual Fannie Bay Swim! It’s an open water swim and entrants can opt to swim in either the 1.2km or 2.1km course, which commences at Pee Wee’s on the Point (if you’re doing the 2.1km swim) or Lake Alexander entrance (for the 1.2km swim) and concludes at the Trailer Boat Club.

The race starts at 9am sharp, however you must attend the compulsory race briefing at 8.15am at the BBQ/Toilet block opposite Lake Alexander. All proceeds of the swim will go to the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club and Early Bird Registrations can be made online until 24 June at 12 noon. Register as an Early Bird and you’ll pay $50. Late entry on the day is also accepted, at the rate of $70 per person, and you have between 7.15-8am on the day of the event to register at the event itself. You can choose to compete as a serious competitor and be in the running for medals, or have some fun by swimming in the Fun Category and deck yourself out for the swim in fins, snorkels, wetsuits – whatever you like! No medals are on offer for this category, however you can pretty much wear whatever you want and have a load of fun while you’re doing it! At the conclusion of the race, there will be a presentation at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club, and you’ll be able to enjoy lunch and drinks at this amazing Darwin establishment, right on the water with a great view! Although it is June, we enjoy temperatures during the day of around 28 degrees, so definitely not too cold to get wet! And what’s most exciting for the team here at Ray White Bayside real estate, is that we are one of the event sponsors! We believe in the cause of life saving, and cherish the services this invaluable organisation provides up here in the Territory and all over the country.
