Do your part for our country’s landscapes!

By Korgan Hucent

On Saturday 1st April, Greening Australia Nursery and Education Centre will be host their first of three, ‘Knowing your Natives and Growing Your Own’ workshops.

Greening Australia are dedicated to restoring landscapes right across Australia, to help people and nature thrive! Australian native plants are the key to life in our country, providing food and shelter for our unique wildlife, and to create healthy landscapes for people to live and work in. Unfortunately, a whopping 1,256 native plant species are recorded as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered. This ultimately puts our animals and people at risk too!

These workshops aim to bring together like-minded groups of people who would like to contribute their time and make a difference to our native habitat. The first part of the workshop series will be an introduction to plant identification and seed collection. You will take a quick trip to local bushland to learn how to identify plants through their features, and how to observe them through their natural vegetation communities.

You will also learn the different types of seeds, the protocol for seed collection, and how and when to collect them from different species, in preparation for you planting your own and making that positive change. We’re very interested here at the Ray White Bayside Real Estate office, and when we have the chance to get out and explore our wonderful Top End, we always love to see the vibrance of our flora landscape!

Tickets cost $40 per workshop or $100 for all three, and you definitely get your great value! Not only will you spend the full day obtaining invaluable knowledge about our native plants and how to grow your own, you also receive lunch and a complimentary book on the subject too! Booking is compulsory and you can do this by emailing Lauren Shaw at drw.info@greeningaustralia.org.
