Cool off and Catch a Wave or two at the Darwin Wave Lagoon

By Korgan Hucent
  • If you’re like one of our many clients here at Ray White Bayside real estate and you’re new to Darwin, then chances are you haven’t discovered the jewel that is the Darwin Wave Lagoon. Located at the heart of Darwin’s Waterfront Precinct, amidst the plethora of cafes, bars and restaurants, the Wave Lagoon is a hive of activity particularly on weekends, when families descend to get some live action and fun amongst the waves.
Every twenty minutes, the wave pool erupts with waves similar to those you’d experience at the beach. Thankfully though, the waves are nice and gentle so forget the idea of being wiped out! Enjoy the swell on a boogie board or pool noodle and take in the atmosphere created by the beautiful aqua coloured water and the palms that surround the pool.
Lifeguards in red and yellow keep watch from the sidelines to ensure everybody is safe, however, if you are at the pool with children, be sure to keep a good eye on them, to ensure safety at all times in and around the water.
When you’re not in the water, you can take in some sun on any one of the banana lounges and enjoy the shade of the massive beach umbrellas. For extra shade, make a spot on the lawn. Wading pools and fountains are also there to enjoy at the wave lagoon, and they’re a hit with small children who perhaps haven’t yet mastered their swimming technique. Supervision of course, is absolutely essential.
A kiosk is also located at the pool, to keep you well stocked up with the summer essentials such as drinks, ice creams, ice blocks and sunscreen! A clean and secure toilet and shower block is also located, with changing facilities and lockers.
You can purchase half or full day tickets for the wave pool, which is open every day from 10am until 6pm.
For further information on ticket prices and conditions, be sure to visit: http://www.waterfront.nt.gov.au/darwin-waterfront-precinct/water-recreation/wave-lagoon-entry-fee/.
